AND DURATION OF REIGN. As the longest reign in British history was that of the late Queen Victoria, so to her son, King Edward VII., belongs the Welsh record, for, prior to his accession to the Throne, His Majesty had borne the distinctioi associated with the Principality longer than any other British Prince, since its creation 600 years ag6. With one exception, William 1V.,; King Edward ascended the Throne at a riper age than any previous Sovereign, of England had attained at tnej time of his or her accession. The aVerage duration of life of the English rulers, since the Norman Conquest, in excluding Cromwell, is a , fraction over 53 years, whilst the duration of tfheir reigns, exclusiye of the Lord Protector and Mary 11., averages slightly- under ■23£ years.
