PATEA HARBOR BOARD.
At the meeting of the Patea Harbor Board on Monday afternoon the Chairman (Mr G. V. Pearce, M.P.), prior to the business being proceeded with referred to the death of King Edward, in connection with which the Board, as representing a large district, should tender a vote of condolence and regret at the people's loss. It would be a serious loss to this Dominion and the whole wojtfd.' The late King had* had more to do with the keeping of peace ■in th© world than any other man in it. He would move: — "That His Excellency the Governor be asked to convey to the Dowager Queen and King George and the Royal Family sincere sympathy in their late bereavement and deep regret at the great loss the Dominion and the Empire as a whole had \sus_tained by the death of his beloved Majesty." The motion was seconded by Mr Christensen and carried. The entrance to the Hawera Post Office has been draped in mourning. Yesterday Mr Bone, secretaif of the Hawera School Committee,' received word from the Premier that the schools were to be closed to-day. The Hawera State school and Convent scholars aro now having their term vacation of one week. The Hawera Postmaster received instructions to have the flag flown at the Post Office in celebration of th© proclamation of King George, from noon to-day until sunset. The flag will then bo put back to half-mast until the day of the late King's funeral.
