KAKARAMA SPORTS.
.*. FOURTH ANNUAL AuU&TING. The fourth annual sports meeting of the Kakaramea Athlecic Club tools place in Forbes' paddock, Kakaramea, on Wednesday. There was a very good attendance. Between noon and one o'clock some heavy showers fell which made it rather unpleasant. Still tne untiring secretary, Mr A. W. Curteis, __<- and his committee kept the proceedings moving. The various events produced satisfactory fields and on the whole the racing was good. The jumping competitions attracted a lot of interest and were well up to the standard of country meetings. The greasy-pig event developed into something more than was originally intended. No sooner was the gun fired and the competitors on the warpath than piggy got away with a flying start and led the competitors a dance all over the paddock, the spectators subsequently joining in the fun. The pig got away into an adjoining paddock and the public gave up the chase. The "run" created much amusement and was voted the best sport of the day. The afternoon was considerably enlivened by the Patea Borough Band which played a programme of excellent selections. The band was under the capable conductorship of Mr J. Hulbert.
