THE TRUTH CASE.

WELLINGTON. April 13. In the Court of Appeal before Sir ' Robert Stout, and Justices Willi ims, Edwards and Chapman the case of Rex v. Coburn was brought up. The case was reserved for the opinion of the Court by Mr Justice Chapmtn. Accused was in November last indicted at Wellington under section 157 of the Crimes Act for the offence of knowingly distributing for public >ale certain obscene printed matter tenling to corrupt morals, to wit — copies of ' Truth. Accused was, at the time, alleged to be the manager of Truth in Wellin^- -, ton. He was found guilty by the jury, and Mr Justice Chapman deferred sentence, and reserved the case for the consideration of tho Court of Appeal followiog, as to (1) whether there was any evidenco to support the conviction ; (2) whether it was necessary, seeing that accused was manager', to prove that he knowingly distributed tho matter complained of; (3) whether the conviction was •right. Messrs 'Levi and Dunn appeared for -accused, and Mr Myers for the Oiwn.
