Tlic Egmont Sheep Dog Trial tenth annual meeting commenced on Mr Pr-att's farm, Waiha, on Tuesday. Unfortunately for tho olub weather conditions were rather unfavorable. The morning opened far from promisin"-, but after a .good shower tho sky clearad, and but far A high wind conditions were satisfactory until the afternoon was we'll advanced. The rain then came down heavily- Despite the adverse weather, however, the trials were proceeded, with. Tho first class set down on the programme was completed, and fair progress was made with •the second one, Very large entries j ■wore received by the club this year, •there being 34 dogs entered in one class, •and among them some reputed to bo very clever. There was a good attendance of sheep ianners and others interested in the working of dogs. The performances of tho animals as a whole were distinctly good, and the intelligence displayed, by some of them was • almost human. "When not competing the dogs sit or lie about with quiet demeanor, but when a particular animal's turn comes it evinces keen enthusiasm, and eagerly works under the direction cf its master. The general conditions ' on Tuesday were not very favorable, though tho high wind would for the most part carry the sound of the ' shepherd's whistle to the dog. The officials carried out their duties splendidly under tho disagreeable circum- j stances mentioned.
