PEOPLE THOROUGHLY ALARMED. PALMERSTON N., April 11. This evening a revolver shot was fired apparently at some people who came out to examine a horse in their shed at the, corner of Fitzroy and Eas,t streets. The bullet went over their heads. The shooter rushed into the open ground of the next section, and, turning, fired another shot. The people rushed inside and barred their doors.

At Ashhurst the residents are in a great state of alarm. Powelka is alleged to have threatened to blow up P. Hanlon's (his brother-in-law), a wellknown local resident.

Mrs Powelka is expecting to become a mother, and is terrified.
