' WELLINGTON, March 31. At the Hibernian Conference to-day a proposal was brought forward that any financial benefit member may on furnishing his branch certificate of good health assure himself for £50 payable at death, in addition to his £20 funeral allowance, by paying quarterly, in advance, to tho . funeral fund payments based on the following seale :— l7 to 20 years", afo the commencement, 2s 4d per quarter; 20 to 25, 2s lOd; 25 to 30, 3s 4d: 30 to 35, 3s lid; 35 to 40, 4s lOd; 40 to 45,, 6s 14; 45 to 50, 7s 8d; 50 to 55, 9s 8d ; 55 to 60, 12s 5d per quarter. Discussion lasted the greater part of the morning, and was not completed at tho lunch adjournment. Every delegate who spoke, with one single oxception, approved of the scheme. The opponent said that t-he society would be- unjustly trenching on the legitimate domain of the insurance companies.
