DRAUGHTS TOURNAMENT.

AUCKLAND, April 1. The New Zealand Draughts Association tournament opened this morning at Leys Institute. The entries are— five from Auckland, one from Wellington, one Marton, one Westport, and two Dunedin. The men from the same district play first. The first round is between — Heaney (Whangarei) v. McKay (Auckland) : Penman (Huntly) v. Penman (Huntly) ; Hillick (Dunedin) v. Boreham (Dunedin); Campbell (New Plymouth) v. Bruce (New Plymouth); Smith (Wellington) v. , Calderwood (Huntly) ; Gleeson (Marton) v. Lowther (Westport). ■ In the draughts tournament McKay beat Heaney by 2 games; Gleeson beat Lowther by 1 game; VV. Penman won by 1$ points against A. Penman %■ point; Campbell i point against Bruce i pomt; Hillick v. Boreham each won half a point.
