(To the Editor.) Sir, — I believe the enclosed letter from tho veteran, Field-Marshal Lord Roberts, to a Taranaki boy will be found interesting reading to Colonel Allen Bell's old comrades on this coast. — I am, etc., FELIX McGUIRE. Mount Royal, March 14. Colonel Bell has received the following interesting letter from Field-Mar-shal Lord Roberts, bearing date of 24th January: — Dear Colonel Bell: It must be a source of great gratification to yourself, and to the members of the 1 New Zealand Empire and National Service League, that your efforts have boon crowned with success. I trust that thi.s most important reform, which has now been adopted in New Zealand, may eventually be adopted by tho Mother Country and extend throughout the Empire, for I am quite sure it is tho only means by which tho Empire can be maintained. I am sending Jor your kind acceptance a signed copy of the photo reproduction of Sargent's picture of myself, presented to me by the staff who served with me in South xlfrica. — Believe me, yours very truly — Roberts, F.M.
