AUROA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Wednesday night last the "all black" minstrels of Manaia gave an entertainment in the local hall, and were rewarded with a crowded house, to which they were justly entitled. Their singing, acting, and side jokes were well received and frequently applauded. Songs in the troupe part of the programme were contributed by Messrs Butler, Lambert, Borrie, Evans, Chivers, Silver, Winters and Cosgrove. AH were sung with choruses and accompanied by the orrihestra, which wasexcellent. The corner men, Messrs Silver, Winters, W. Borrie and Andrews, did really well, and kept the i audience in a roar of laughter from beginning to end. The second half of the programme was well arranged and consisted of songs. Mr Andrews gave a laughing song, to which he had to respond. Mr W. Borrie was in fine form with bis singing of "Billy Muggins." Mr Lambert's song, "Annie Laurie," was also well received. The concert concluded with a farce entitled "A Lawyer's Clerk," the parts Being taken by Messrs W. and J. Borrie, C. Winters and Andrews in a way that showed that they had received a good deal of training. At no part could there be seen a face in the audience without a smile. The takings (in aid of the local band funds) reached close on £12, which for the time of year must be considered good. The troupe are to play at Otakeho in a fortnight's time, and should have no trouble in getting a crowded house. I was unable to obtain the names of those who assisted in the orchestra, but such fine music has never before been heard in Auroa. Owing to the gas in the hall refusing duty the concert did not commence till close on 9 o'clock.
