PALMERSTON N., November 4. The Manawatu Spring Show was formally opened by Lord Plunket at noon to-day. His Excellency was accompanied 1 by Lady Plunket, and there was also present a strong contingent of Parliamentarians, who arrived by the express from Wellington. The weather is beautifully fine to-day, and the attendance is already very largo. The minor classes' wore all judged yesterday, and to-day all the live stock and dogs arc being judged. None of the classes have been completed yet, but. the principal winners so far are: — Shorthorns — Mr A. W. Williams, Hawke's Bay < scooped tine pool, taking six firsts and two championships. Horofords— Mr G. F. Moora (Wanganui) principal prize-taker, closely followed, however, by Mr G-. Wheeler (Halcombo). Mr A. J. Stone Wigg (Wairarapa) was awarded a first * and second. . In tho Ayrshire classes Slack Bros. (Palmerston North) took three firsts and a champion, Mr W. B. Harre (Feilding) champion and reserve champion,- and Messrs E. Eagle, P; Noonan. J. A. McCrea. O. Clarke and S. It. utiroaster divided honors. The judging of tho entire horses classes is not completed yet. The^ delay is owing to examination by officers of the Veterinary Department as to hereditary unsoundness, which it is evident will 1 have to be done a day prior to the judging. ' Tho only championship award so far is Mr J. D. Mitchells Hore-I-Go, who boat Mr E. Short's imported colt Gold Measure. The latter scored heavily in the female classes with imported draught mares. In the shoep classes the champion Southdown ram was shown by Ellis Bros., of Rangitikei. Mr S. R. Lancaster took ,six firsts in the same classes, Ellis Bros, taking two firsts. Tho Lincoln principal prize-takers were Messrs W. Perry and W. H. Wybourne. Mr E. Short scooped the pool in the Romnoy classes. Mr S. R. Lancaster is the biggest prize-taker, in the English Leicesters with nine firsts. Mr G. Elliott secured first prize for lambs for freozing for the London market.
