STAMP AND DEEDS' DEPARTMENT.

DR FINDLAY ON THE PROPOSED

CENTRALISATION

[PBESS ASSOOTATTON.I

DUNEDIN, July 22

Dr Findlay told the Law Society, who protested against centralisation in con--nection with the Stamp and Deeds Department, that it had been represented to Sir Joseph Ward that a saving of £11,000 would be effected by the proposed change. It was a question for investigation whether that saving would Tse outweighed by the expense and inconvenience to the public. He would report to Cabinet straightway, and if the deputation's representations were borne out the proposed change would be a matter for early re-consideration.
