TOWN BOARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday night; presentCommissioners Guy (Chairman), Mills, Death, and Betts. Mr Dixon was given permission to erect guard fence on road at his property. Manaia and Opunake Town Boards ■wrote regarding the reduction of publicans' license*. The former Board suggested that a meeting of delegates be held to consider what steps should be taken in protesting against the reduction, Kanonga Board to take the initiative. The Opunake Board recommended that a letter protesting should be sent to the Acting-Premier, and also to the member of the district. It was resolved, "That a meeting of delegates representing the Opunake, Manaia, Normanby, and Kaponga Town Boards be held at Kaponga on Wednesday, July 28, at 2.30 p.m., and that the Chairman (Mr A. H. Guy) and Commissioner Swadling represent this Board."

It was resolved that the Board ask the New Plymouth Lands Office which Government department section 26 (next to Post Office) is controlled by.

The Chairman moved, and Commissioner Death seconded, the adoption of motion moved at last meeting striking a rate of Id in the town district and Id in the county for the year 1909-10.

Resolved that the matter of forming and gravelling footpaths in Kuri street be left to the Works Committee.

Resolved that property owners on the south side of Manaia road, from Wickham's to Kelly's corner, be asked to provide the timber for the purpose of kerbing the footpath; in the event of this being arranged the Foreman to proceed with gravelling the said path.

The Foreman's report included the following recommendations : — (1) That culverts be erected at entrances jf Messrs dapper's, Behl's, and King's properties; (2) that the main street be scraped, stating that he did not think th« blinding would work into the road. — Resolved that the concrete kerbing be continued at the entrances at Gapper's, Guy's, Behl's, and King's, and that. the property owners be asked to supply timber for culverts. Regarding the second recommendation the members thought that with a little fine weather the blinding would set, and no action was taken. It is reported that an accident of a

very distressing nature befel Master Martin Power, son of Mr M. Power, of this town. It seems that the boy was extracting a charge from a gun when it exploded, causing painful injuries to his face and damaging his eyes. Dr Maclagan attended the sufferer, who was afterwards removed to a private hospital in Elthani, where he is progressing as well as can be expected. It is feared that the sight of one eye will be injured. A wedding which excited considerable local interest was solemnised at St. Mark's Church on Wednesday, the contracting parties being Mr Fred. Adlam, fourth son of Mr G. A. Adlam, of Oakura, and Miss Mary Smith, eldest daughter of. Mr T, Smith, of Riverlea. The Rev. Mr Klingender officiated. The church was filled with a large number of friends and relatives. After the ceremtony the guests . repaired to the residence of Mr Smith, at Riverlea, w.here the wedding breakfast was enjoyed.
