AN OFFER WITHDRAWN*

MASTERTON, July 21. Last year Dr Hosking, senr., generously offered £500 for the erection of a

municipal women's bath at Masterton. -. Tenders were invited, and the lowest \tender for a bath of reduced size was £578. This tender Dr Hosking refused to accept, being of opinion that the larger bath could be erected for the sum available, if the work was carried out by the borough staff under the borough engineer. At last night's meeting of the Borough Council a heated dis-

cussion took place. An amendment by the Mayor that the donor's wish be out was declared lost. Dr Hos- ' king has now definitely withdrawn his otter, stating that under no circumstances will he re-consider his decision, but will cable Home for £500 worth of > radium instead, which he thinks may probably serve a more useful purpose. The withdrawal of the offer has caused general disappointment in the community.
