KAPONGA.
/(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Farmers in this district have evidently come to the conclusion that the milking machine has come to stay, as I know of a large number who have either already installed or have placed orders for machines to be installed for next season. There is still a difference of opinion as to which is the best machine on the market, and this is borne out by the fact that during the last few months neighboring settlers have installed different makes of machine. Nevertheless the unanimous opinion seems to be that the machine milking is far more satisfactory than having to rely on the labor market for the necessary help.
At the usual fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Kaponga Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., held on Monday night last, two female candidates were initiated and two proposed. Prizes will be given as usual, including a special prize to be awarded to the highest points winner for the season,
The Rugby Club opened the season on Saturday, when they met and were defeated by an Eltham fifteen by 11 points to nil. A practice will be held on Saturday next, when teams from Okaiawa and Kaponga will try conclusions.
Mr L. H. Baigent, who was for a number of years in business in Kaponga, has joined Messrs Young, Hobbs and Co.'s staff, and will reside in Kaponga.
