AUROA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The bnll held on Monday night under the auspices of the Auroa Sports Club was a great success. At 8.30 o'clock the floor was packed, and the grand march waltz gave a sight never before seen in Auroa. The beautiful dresses worn by the ladies showed well by the acetylene light, which for a time was brilliant. lioughly speaking, 125 couples took the floor. The music supplied by Cosgrove's orchestra, assisted by Miss Hughes (piano), Mr J. McClelland (violin), and Messrs Cosgrove and Claque (cornet) was first-class. The duties of M.C. were courteously carried out by Messrs L. W. Innes and J. J. O'Dea. The waltzing competition was won by Mr W. Faulkner and Mrs Pye. The supper, supplied by Mr Gatenby and Co., of To Kiri, was an elaborate spread. The whole turn-out was voted one of the best of its kind yet held in Auroa. The sum of £26 5s was taken nt the door. Taking the 'sports and ball together the club will, I believe, have a larger surplus than on any previous occasion. The profit is made out of the sports; the ball is never looked to by the committee for a surplus, they being satisfied to give a good finish to their annual gathering. Mr C. "E. Parsons donated one guinea to fSe chih's fund, raid Messrs Princ.e, Raw-cliff e, W. Bradford and T. McPhillips 10s 6d each.
