-i"ht> meeting was remarkable "for several accidents which took place to-day. In the hurdle race Snow Star, ridden by A. Watson, struck the fourth hurdle, fell on its head, and expired within half an hour. Watson was shaken, but remained on the course all the afternoon. In the Newmarket Handicap, Cute, ridden by Telford, fell at the entrance to the straight, bringing down Awha (Lowe), Oblivion (Williams), and Sweet SHbt (Coleman). None of the horses or riders were injured. In the Makuri Hack, Hatch, who was on Miss Vera, had his left foot crushed on the rails at the start. The stewards held an enquiry at the close of the meeting, and decided to recommend the Metropolitan Committee to disqualify H. Telford, the rider of Cute, for three months for cutting in and causing the accident.
Nine bookmakers were licensed. The totalisator investments were £5513, as against £6085 for the second day of last year, making £11,747 for the meeting. Results: — , Hack Hurdles— Maidi 1, Whatakura 2, Coy 3. The other starter, Snow Star, fell and sustained injuries from which he died.
Stewards' Handicap — Lady Menschikoff 1, Toa Tuhi 2, Aboriginal 3. Also started: 'Mussell, Lochiela, Thera. Won by a neck.
Newmarket Hack — Lucretius 1, Miss Vera 2, Swallow 3. Also started: Cute, Notorious, Aroha, Purakau, Oblivion, Tainui, Sweet Shot. Cute fell at the entrance to the straight and brought down Aroha, Oblivion, Tainui and Sweet Shot. None of the riders were hurt. Won by a head.

Racing Club Handicap — Roosevelt 1, Tangeroa 2, Moloch 3. Also started: Aberration, Seaton Dale, Loiret, Nova, and Skye. / Makuri Hack — Bonnie Dooii 1, Cute 2, No Trumps 3.
