CRICKET.

The Hawera and Kaponga teams met at Victoria Park on Thursday afternoon. The weather was beautiful and the wicket and field in good order. Kaponga batted first, Bird and Workman opening the innings. Workman started badly, McCarthy taking his wicket with the first ball. Snookes took Workman's place, but though he carried his bat put up only 18, Maclagan being next highest scorer with 13. McCarthy and Pratt were bowling exceedingly well, the former taking three wickets and the latter five. Kaponga scores are as follows: — Bird, b McCarthy, 0; Workman, b McCarthy, 0 ; Snookes, not out, .18 ; Price, b Pratt, 4 ; Brennard, b Pratt, 7 ; Kelly, b Pratt, 3; Death, b McCarthy,' 2; Betts,.b Pratt, 2; Trower, b Pratt, 2; Maclagan, c Norgate, b Johnson, 13; H. Faull, b Johnson, 0; extras, 5. Hawera made 78 for eight wickets. Johnson (26) and Pratt (22) were highest scorers. Three wickets each were taken by Trower and Workman, and Price two wickets. .
Hawera scores were: — Treweek, c Death, b Trower, 9 ; Webby, c Snookes, b Trower, 6; Pratt, b Price, 22; McCarthy, b Price, 8; Johnson, b Price, 26; Mitchell, b Trower, b Workman, 4; Burke, b Workman, 0; Bates, b Workman, 0; byes, 3; total, 78.
ENGLISH CHURCH PICNIC.
The annual picnic was held at the Kaponga Domain this afternoon. There was a fairly good attendance of both children and parents. During the afternoon competitions, races, etc., were in full swing.
