FEILDING, January 28
An important considered judgment •.v.i<- delivered by Mr A. D. Thomson, S.-U.. ii' Feilding Court to-day, in the ere of the- Feilding Borough Council v. O'Jleara. Defendants claimed exemp*iyii from rates because Archbishop Redwood's property held the convent and school and Father O'Meara's was •occpnl by playgrounds.* In the Bis)i.ij:'« case it was shown that the Nuns iisi <I the convent to teach music and s'.ncit'c; to other than pupils of the school. The Magistrate therefore ruled tt l i.> ci rvent land liable to pay rates. Ij. Father O'Meara's case, where there are ih. Pc sections not divided by a ft!r-<\ to which the children had access, bit fr.i which a cow was grazed, defendir t v.ap ordered to pay rates on one section. The action was a friendly one, Vought fOl ward to settle the legal question as to the payment of rates.
