MR MAJOR AT WAVERLEY.

There would be about three hundred electors, including some sixty ladies, in attendance at the Waverley Town Hall on Saturday' evening to hear Mr Major's address. Mr Muldrock was voted to the chair.

The speech was very comprehensive, running along the lines of former addresses, which have been fully reported in the Star. In his concluding remarks Mr Major made reference to the great deal of discussion in the newspapers on something he had said about a portfolio, but this he found no occasion to take exception to, as he thought it infinitely better in the interests of the constituents to have a man with ambition representing them. Ambition was desirable either in the case of an individual or a nation. He always liked to see or to find a man striving to make progress. That was always the type of man. for Eim, and he hoped he would be the type of man for them. (Applause.) Mr Major spoke for a little over two hours, his address being punctuated by frequent applause. Questions were invited, but as none were forthcoming Mr D. McDonald moved a vote of thanks and confidence in Mr Major and in the Ward administration. Seconded by Mr A. Wade. There was no amendment in answer to the Chairman's enquiry, an 3 the motion was put to the meeting, there were not voters against it, and the resolution was declared carried unanimously.
