In all probability 1 £&bf would not be able to induce the Minister to. establish the main school here, and' in that case the Chamber would endeavorto get a branch of the school started in Hawera, The main question, was that of sites. As Sir McNab' would be visiting' the district shortly, the* Chamber would like to know what sites "were available for bringing under the Minister's jfytkie; There was one section, niar the hospital. There were others . which were Jet,' the leases of which had not long to run, and it only remained to be- ascertained, whether the lessees would be willing to give up their right' to any of those' 'sites supposing' the Minister decided ( upon any one of them. Cr Campbell asked what was the object of the school? Mr Najder replied that it was being established with the object of teaching boys to become managers, of factories and give them whatever instructions were necessary in that direction. Mr Nalder said he would also like the Council to appoint two or three members to act in conjunction with, the Chamber of Commerce in the matter of getting the school at Hawera. He also asked the Council to make a small grant towards ttie cost of entertaining the Minister while in Hawera.

The Mayor said the Minister did not expect to be entertained. He would be taken round the district and shown what the country was capable of producing in the way of dairying. It was not a matter of entertaining, but one of instruction.

Mr Nalder admitted' that it was not a matter of entertaining the Hon. Mr McNab, but . one of showing him the claim this district has upon the dairy school. Mr Nalder then, thanked the Council for its attention, and -withdrew.

Subsequently Cr Wilkinson moved, That the Council offer the Minister any sites the leases of which expire within a. reasonable time at a peppercorn rental, and that the Mayor, Or Brunette, and the mover be appointed a committee to work in conjunction with the Hawera Chamber of Commerce in connection with the dairy school.

The motion was seconded by Cr Paoey and carried.
