THE COMMONWEALTH TARIFF.
BEPORTED UPON AT HOME. £PItES3 ASSOCIATION.! LONDON, October 14. The Tariff Commission has published an elaborate analysis of the new Australian tariff. It considers that while the tariff will probably cause a transference of trada from foreign countries to the United Kingdom, aid affect the relative proportions if different branches, British exports tj Australia are unlikely to diminish, but may increase the total Volume oi export*. The report emphasises thar share of the Australian import trade steadily diminished, and revision was necessary in the interests of Australian revenue. It is estimated that under previous tariff the British the value of Australian imports placed on the United , Kingdom's free list, amounts to at least three millions, and those placed on the general free list to at least seven millions. There still remains, also, a large area of imports to which preference can be applied.
