TARANAKI (4) v. WANGANUI (2). The representative match, Taranaki (yellow) v. Wanganui (groen), was. piayed at Bayly Park, Hawera, on Thursday afternoon in fine weather, bet on a sodden ground. In th© first spell, Wanganui played with what little wind tlLVrc was, in their favor. Thte teamsi were fairly evenly matched, and taken on tow whole, t3io g&nie was a good exposition of hockey, buj perliaps noi. quite up to representative standard. From bully-off the ball was taken into Wongo-mii territory. Th© yellows returned to th© attack, the ball travelling up and down the field with great rapidity, without an advantage to either Side. However, Wongnnui initiated one or two Tushes and twice in succession made an effort to score, but the attempts were frustrated by the goad-keeper. Tarana&i warmed to the game, and as the. result; cf good forward play, Sargent received tho ball and shot an easy goaJ. Even play followed. Taranaki again invaded Wanganui's circle, and Reid bepiing the opposing fujl-back and thei goal-keeper, slrot a pretty goal. Shortly afterwards Wanganui carried play into TaTanaki's < circle, and Williams obtaining on opening. dt"ew frrst blcod for the gpeens. A deal of uninteresting play .followed, and jusb be. fore the close fo ihe spell Tararaki added another goal-, Harris being the scorer. The. spell ended Taranaki 3, Wanganui 1.
