ATTEMPTED MURDER AND SUICIDE. rpBKSS ASSOCIATION.! INVERCARGILL, September 4. A sensational shooting case occiured at' Nighboaps late last night, when' Henry Reid, a miner, aged 22, from Tasmania, ahot Lydia Gibbon, aged 22, with whose pannente .he lodged, and then aUempted ..suicide. Reid had .been, paying attention to the girl, who discouraged him, as she was engaged to another man. The two ■sat talking in tbje kitchen, and after all the others- in the liouse hod retired shots ■w«Te heard, and the -girl was found lying in a pool of blood with a bullet wound in the head. Reid was discovered' down a •well with a bullet wound in the palate. (Both are 1 itf a^ critical condition.
