TRADES COUNCILS ON LAND BALLOTS.

DUNEDIN, August 15. The Otago Trades and Labor Council this evening passed the following resolution: "That this Council wishes to pointedly direct th© attention, of the •Government to the iarge amount of trafficiving going on in' coranectdon with blocks of Jand offered for selection by th© Government 1 . Gamblers, w.ho have no intention, of going on Ihe land, are allowed' to. enter the ballot for no other purpose than selling out'at an increased value, which conclusively proves that tihe • flamd is 'leased' at too low a rental. The Council contends 1 that only bona fide selectors should be permitted! to enter th© ballot, and *he Government should immediately take effective steps to stop dummies from entering ballots, and that in all cases a fair" rental should be fixed."
