During_the last few days the Maoris have b&en along here selling Cape gooseberries at 4d per lb. We remember the days when those berries were as common as peaches.
At the annual school picnic a/nd sports to be he3d on Easter Monday £3 is to be. set aside for prizes for the scholars attending the .school, and visitors will be asked to contribute towards the prize fund. Any movement wMch has ior its object the enjoyment of the young people should be' heartily supported.
Judging by the appearance of the beach at Opunake last Sunday one would imagine that half th© population of Opunake. was there. Dozens were erjoying a dip in the briny, and the dirtanoe some of the bathers went out showed that they had no fear of sharks.
This lias not only been a magnifioont season for farmers, but our local tradesmen also tell me they have never been kept so busy as at present.
