The Daily Mail states the explosion violently shook the entire area of -Greater New York.

One Italian was kilted. He dropped some hot ashes on a case of dynamite, which igniting spread to the magazine at the mouth of the tunnel containing one hundred tons of explosives.

One hundred workmen who were in the tunnel 'had a marvellous escape.

An enormous hole was torn in the ground and dozens of buildings were wrecked.
