THE RAKIURU ASHORE..
GROUNDS DURxNG A FOG.
DUNEDIN, February 16. The Customs officer at Dunedin received the following telegram this morning :
'*'The Rakiuru went ashore 4£ males north of Nuggets at 1.44 a.m. in a dense fog. She ds lying with her bow on to the
beach. No damage >hae been done to the vessel, and the cnew are all safe. There is a heavy easterly sea. Signed, Dow."
The latest news corcerning tha Rakiuru •states that sh? i& still in a safe position on the lieach. The tug Koputai left on Saturday night with spare anchors 1 , cables and gear, and is standing by about half a mile off, waiting for the tide, when an attempt will be made to tow her off. The weather is cleaning, but there is some doubt as to whether the tug can approach close -enough to be ot service.
