OHANGAI SCHOOL.
The formal opening of the new school at Ohangai took place on Wednesday afternoon. / Mr Oliver, Chairman of Committee, said he was glad to see so many present, and he hoped the attendance at the school would increase. Tl»y had a hard struggle to get the school, and had to thank Mr Dixon for his work ; but for him they would never have got it. No doubt hfc was the right man in the right place, for when he sees the need of a school he ! wsrks away until it is an accomplished fact. Mr Dixon, member of the Education Board, thanked the Chairman for his kindly remarks, and congratulated the peopte on having the fine school in their midst. Although he favored concentration where practicable, the bad roads around «Qhangoi made it impossible to introduce the van system. He noted tihat they were one of tihe few schools in the Wanganu' district ■ with aingle • desks? these should assist greatly in the discipline of the. school. They had reason to be proud of their system of free education, still he thought „ the , State could go further, it should take a lesson from America and provide all school requisites for tEe use of scholars.
