The Patea and Waimate match, it was consideredj would provide the most interesting contest of the day, especially in consideration of the positions .of the various teams. In Hawera the result waß awaited with great interest. Patea and Waimate took the field on even terms (10 points) and one point ahead of Hawexa. It would, therefore, have suited Hawera well if the match bad been drawn. As it was, a very tough struggle ensued, of which Waimate had slightly the best. Luck' was against them, however, and they got beaten by 3 points, Patea getting one try to nil. C. Burke scored the try. E. Burke did not play for Waimate.

Thurston was the best back on the ground, and C. Burke and Tom Sheahan were particularly prominent for Patea. Ward and Franblyn (backs) and MoKay, Mackay and Bburke (forwards) played best for Waamate. .• '
