THE BOROUGH FINANCES.
Ratepayers will have seen from the report ol the proceedings at the Borough Council on Wednesday evening that the finances oi the borough have become still further involved during the past year. The balance sheet it at present away in Wellington for verification so that we are I not in a position to deal with it exhaus- \ tivel\. The remarks of the Mayor may l be supplemented, however, by saying that the borough is approximately £360 worse off than it was this time last yea?, without talcing into account the success or otherwise of the new waterworks scheme Immediately the balance sheet is available we will analyse the position and make a presentation of the figures in as simple a form as possible. Meanwhile we will merely add our approval of Cr Pacey'B observation "that the Councillors should 1 concentrate all tß«w afedlitieis upon the finance of the municipality arid endeavor to find* a way out of the maze."
