B FLAT BASS. RtMARKS BY THE ' JUDUE. °£ t &s* (Woolson). Played "Sehnsucht (fiartmann).— A very fine performance. In all respects an 'excellent bass player Good executant. The D'» on iourth lme were a shade flat, was noticeable on a sustained note. Has a rich tone and plays with rare appreciation of his subject. N - (Taranaki Garrison). Played Sehnsucht."— Another careful rendering of this solo. The player is an all-round good one, just fails to reach the standard of No. 1 player.
E FLAT BASS. Remarks by the Judge. S. Signal (Wanganui Garrison). Played "Wakatipu."— A really good performance, all round, meriting first prize. . T. Wilson (Woolston). Played "Wakatipu" (Ord-Hume).— A good executant. Plays with confidence. Has a peculiar reedy tone on some notes. On the whole a very serviceable bass instrumentalist H. G. Segar (South Canterbury). Played "Ponderous" (Ord-Hume). — This player is inclined to be boisterous on occasions; the running passages were blurred, and some parts were rather too snappily treated. N-avertheless a, very fair performer, especially for band work.. F. Hutchens (Ruahme Battalion). Played "Hardy Norseman" (Round). — A serviceable bass player, without displaying any striking features. J. Harwood (Palmerston North). Played "The Hardy Norseman" (Round).— A moderate performance. The execution wa; not given with sufficient distinctness, and the general rendering wanted more variety. J. Roch (Taranaki Garrison). Played "Ponderous." — A moderato performance. My shorthand notes refer to details.
