MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

To 6ave a cTvieh. tickets for admission to the racecourse will .be on sale at the Opera House to-morrow morning from 9 to 10.30. The post office advises that, in order to prevent inconvenience to residents on the coach route to-morrow through the mail coach being delayed till 6 p.m., it has boen arranged that the mails be sent forward at the U6ual time by buggy. The mails will therefore close as usual at 12.30 p.m.

Mr Cohen (Mayor of PaJmereton North, and President of the North Island Brass Band Association), Mr Holben (secretary of N.1.8.8.A.), in company with the Mayor of Hawera (Mt Robbins), were this morning shown over the Hawera. Borough abattoirs, the hospital, public swimming baths and were then, taken to the top of the fire brigade tower, where tho visitors expressed themselves delighted with the splendid view obtained. Mr Coh?Ji, in his run through the hospital, was very much struck with the up-to-date conveniences there and more particularly with the female ward and operating room. He Bdcured a photograph of the female ward in order to show it to the Palmerston North Hospital Board, of which Mr Cohen is a member.

CLAIM FOR DAMAGES. Herbert Headley (cab driver) claimed -, ' £15 10s from Clarke and Higginson (stable propTjetors) for damagee don© to his -cab. The damage -was alleged to be the result of a collision near Syme's mill in Princes street, on the second day of the , Egmont A. and P. Show. Headley was driviftg to the station and the other cab was coming from the station. In addition to the evidence aJready given the following was heaTd : — Frederick Purser and Albert Cleniepts, who "were in Clarke and Higginson'6 cab, ewoie that Jones was sober and that he was travelling on his proper side of the Toad and at a reasonable pace. Constable Potter gave evidence as to seeing Jones •several times during the day and considered him sober. Mr Barton intimated that he had one more witness he wished to call and he would then address the Court. As His Worship had other business to ■attend the case was adjourned till next Tuesday.
