THE FLUGEL HORN SOLOS.
Remarks by the .Judge.
P. Poole (South Canterbury BattelionV Played . "Fantasie Concertante" ' (W<?,ber). Except for some blemishes in -the' way of mis-hits. occasionally this was a very fine' perfomance. It. was treated ii an artistic ( manner and there was a good deal of i character observable. I just prefer this player to No. 2 performer (E. Gould). W. Stokes (Wooteton). . Played "Edelweiss" (Hock). — Shows many , admirable points for a'fmgel horn executant" Tone' is good arid tuneful and the soloist plays with judgment;- It is a pity that the higher notes are a source ; of , . weakness. On the whole a most pleasing performance., E. Gould (Wanganui Garrison). Played "The Thorn" (Hartraann^A performance alternating with excellent and at time 9 mediocre execution. "The. player has "•a-, goodf .quality of tone. There 1 wajs one unfortunate lapse'; but "many -admirable "features* to' Compensate.' Trfple-tonguing very good. On the whole just a shade better than the previous performer (Stokes).
