XOCTUIFORM WINS THE CUP.

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 4.

The weather for the opening of the New Zealand Cup meeting was beautiful, and the attendance large. The win of the favorite, Noctuiform, in the Cup, was loudly cheered. Speculation was brisk, the investments amounting to £23,722. Results : —

Spring Hurdles. — The Mohican 1, Magnificent. 2, Tupara 3. Also started : Handsome Rose, Waiwera, Miss King, Catherine Gordon, Taxpayer, Leeside. Won comfortably by two and a half lengths. Time, 3.51 4-5. Divs., £6 2s and £7 11s.

Maiden Plate.— Pas Seul (7.7) 1, Hilarity 2, Makaroff 3. Also started : Togos, Gay Spark, Notus, Volodia, Tsitsihar, Grand Poplar. Divs., £2 16s 6d and £7 13s.

Riccarton Welter. — Petticoat 1, Clanchattan 2, Delaware 3. Also started : Boris, Brighton, Medallist, Blythemaid, Ability, Bagpipes, "Lady Lyonors, Euclid, Czarevna, Balsam Divs., £4 3s 6d and £6 10s.

NEW ZEALAND CUP, 2000 soys. Two miles. Noctuiform 1 Paritutu ... ... 2 Quarryman 3 Also started : Achilles, Ghoorka, Mahutonga, Melodeon, Veneer, Golden Knight, Calibre, St. Joe, Douche, Stepdancer. Noctuiform was with the leading division passing the stand, but going along the back stretch he dropped back. Stepdancer was first into the straight, but Hewitt then brought Noctuiform along on the outside, and finishing brilliantly, won by a length and a half. Quarryman was half a length behind Paritutu.
