HAWERA GOLF CLUB.
A general meeting of members was held on Saturday in the Borough Council Chambers. Dr Westenra was in the chair, and explained that the principal business to be considered was the question of the lease of the links and of registering the Club under the "Unclassified Societies Act." Mr Chettle, the Hon. Secretary, saad that after going carefully into the matter he considered that at the end of the next yeaT, after paying for lease £20 and various extoraordinary expenses such as fencing and top dressing the greens, providing four rollers and mower, and also meeting ordinary the Club would be from £14 to £16 in debt. It was for members to decide whether they considered the liability should be incurred, but they should remember that conditions would be very much better than they had been, a<nsthat, even, with the proposed increase, the subscription would be much below that of other clubs.
On the motion of Dr Brown, seconded by Mr Turton, it was decided to register the Club.
Mr Gillies moved, That the lease of the links be drawn up and signed by Dr Westenra and Mr Chettle on behalf of the Club. In speaking to the motion, Mr Gillies emphasised the fact that members would have much more enjoyable play and at a much smaller subscription than in most other places. If everyone put his shoulder to the wheel- the increased liability could easily be met by an extra effort.
Dr Brown seconded, and the motion was carried.
Subsequently it was resolved to recom--mend to the General Committee that Mr Chettle be elected to the vacancy of the Ground Committee. *
A vote of thanks to the Chairman conduded" the meeting.
