A WHITE AUSTRALIA.
THE NEED FOR RESTRICTION.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] (Re-eived October 25, 7.30 ;i.in.)
MINDON, October 24.
The Times, in an article on immigration restriction, says a. special provision would meet the special case of the importation of blacklegs during a strike, but it is certain that an. absolute Jaissez faire policy as regards colored people would make Australia, the home of a preponderating! y yellow and brown 'population. The existence of our race demands restrictions and regulations which ought to be as little invidious as possible. The paper argues with Mr Deakin that thero is room for a restatement of the case, and adds : "The growth of Imperial unity must be based on compromise, not on verbal subterfuge. The motherland must realise the nature of Australia's problems and modify her pre-conccived theories to suit them. Axistralia t in the interests of the Empire and her own progress, must learn to separate what is essentia l to the development of the white race and the maintenance of the standard of living fn»n wHat is not easeniinl. and retain the former."
