NEW SOUTH WALES.
IX FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES.
[press association.] (Received September 13, 1.7 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 12. The Treasurer's statement for the current year will be the severest financially he has yet had to encounter. It is only with the utmost care that he would evade reverting to the long period of deficiencies associated with the finances. The process of administrative reform during the year exhausted the channels of economy, and it is now necessary for Parliament to deal with legislative reforms designed to effect economies. It was necessary to economise or tax. According to last year's estimate, the departmental economies saved £163,000, and the year closed with a" surplus of £187,000. The estimated receipts for the coming year were £11,327,000, expenditure £11,407,000. It was hoped to save £80,000 by departmental economies and £50,000 by legislation. Loan expenditure for the past year amounted to £3,633,000, of which a million and a half was spent on public works, the balance being absorbed by renewals and repayments.
