A SCOW STRANDED.
[PBESS ASSOCIATION.] WESTPORT, June 2G. ' Iho I'crn Flat dredge was sunk, and two Ji%- cs , lost. The Buller Junction diiqdge wm carried three miles. down the river and deposited in Mr CornweH's paddock. The Welcome dredge was carried down the river for two miles and etra tided in a.n awkward position. The bridge at Whitecliffs was carried away, and a washout occurred at Berlins preventing tho Tunning of the mail' coacli service. Tho river rose to a great height reaching tine top of Fern Arch and completely submerging several of the telegraph poles. Th© scow Haere, when leaving Karamea on Thursday with a cargo of sleepers ran aground at the mouth of the river. The ; major portion of the sleepers was discharged, and the vessel was taken back just insido tho river. There she lay till Friday night, when the lieavy gale drove her further up stream, and the water full,ing rapidly, she was left high and dry on an island. fi';\,-
