MR H. P. BUTTS FAREWELLED.

A most interesting function was held by the- Hawera Hockey Club on Saturday evening, when Mr H. V. Butts, who lias been promoted to the managership of the WaverU-y branch of Iho Hank of Australasia, wiis formally farcwolled by his hockey associates. Mr Butts, who was on tho local staff of tho Bank of Australasia, for 6OHK-. years was a most- enthusiastic hockey player, and one of the most, prominent members of the local club.

Mr B. He (hen on Ih«hulf of the Club presented Mr Butls with a very neat pair of gold shevo links. Mr Pratt, captain of Iho hockey team, also s[voke in eulogistic terms of Mr Bulls.

Mr Buite, in replying, said that, he did not think his ee-rvices woull be needed for any 'if tlie bigger matches, but was met with a strong chorus of dissent. Mr Butls remarked that he wont for a walk by hinriclf every afternoon since he had been at Waverley, but did not like that as well as hockey. Mr H. Elliott proposed the toast of "Our Visitors."

Mr Payne, in replying, referred to Mr Butts as the best half-back in the North Island, aud said that his pi aw would not bo easy to fill in auy team. During tho ovenin*; kouks wore, suns by Messrs T. Aitkon. E. Swinburne, and Dr Brown, nnd recitations were given by Mesfire C. Clements, F. Turnbull, and P. Pratt. Mr Leo. Whittaker was an accommodating and capable pianist. The singing, by tho company, of Auld Lang Sync, brought a most enjoyable e veiling to a close.
