MUNICIPALISING GAS WORKS.
[TREBB ASSOCIATION.]
CHRISTCHURCH, June 12. .A deputation waited on the City Council to-night and urged that the Christchurch Gas Company's property be acquired by the municipality. Mr T. E. Taylor, M.H.R., contended that the price to be paid should not exceed the present market value of tho shaves, which is £225,000. On the motion of tho Mayor a conimittee of the Council was set up to consider the advisableness of purchasing the properly.
POLITICAL.
NAPIER, June 12. Mr A. L, D. Fuaser, M^H.R,, at the conclusion of a pre-scssional address at Taradale this evening, was accorded a vote of thanks.
FATHER HAYS.
WELLINGTON, June 12. Many people were unable to gain admission to the Town Hall to-night, to hear Father Hays' address. Sir Joseph .Ward was on the platform. Father Hays was welcomed by representatives of the Anglican and evangelical churches here, and of tho temperance societies. Tho meeting was a record one for attendance.
