A small cottage near the railway station, that had just been vacated, was discovered to. be on fire on Saturday evening. The Fire Brigade was quickly on the .spot, and succeeded hi extinguishing the flames' in a very short time. This is the first occasion that the high pressure water has been in practical use and it gave every satisfaction. ' The walls and roof of the building *re still standing, bat' all the inside is completely destroyed. A bowling match took place on Saturday afternoori between Fitzroy and Eltham, two rinks. Eltham Won by 43 to 36. The local yolunteera secured first and second places in the tent pitching contest at Stratford on Saturday. . Mr €. A. Wilkinson has eecVrefl the contract for new uniforms and overcoats.
At a meeting of the Domain Board Executive, held on Saturday night, Mesirs Baker and McMecham's tender of £223 for the erection of grandstand was accepted, s^nd to be ready by Easter Monday.
