ELTHAM DRAINAGE BOARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The monthly meeting took place in the Council Chambers on Saturday; presentMessrs Belcher (in the chair), Routley, Coplestone, and Jenkins. Mr Temfilar, the Board's engineer, was also in attendance.

Tho Chairman reported having gone over the ground at the Piikcngahu end of Ngairo swamp; the settlers were desirous of raising a loan of £600.— Action was suspended pending the receipt of particulars regarding the exact number of sections affected. Mr T. E. Coleman appeared before the Hoard and gave particulars of the drain about to be constructed as a continuation of the present main drain.— lt was resolved to carry out the. extension at a grade ranging from sft to 3ft, and No. 2 drain to be 4(t throughout. Mr Neither reported upon the JohnsKnucky drain dispute, recommending how the cost should be distributed. The report wah adopted, all interested to be notified of tin* Board's decision. It was further resolved that all assessments not paid within .seven days be handed over to the Board's solicitor to be deult with.

The Engineer reported satisfactory progress of work in hand, 12£ chains, having been completed during the month. Members of the Board, who had seen the job, were unanimous in the opinion that the work was the best of its kind they had ever seen.

The Engineer's report was adopted, and a progress payment of £45 6s 3d was passed to Mr Judd, the contractor. A letter was received from Mr H. J. Lord, asking for an outlet for water from his property. — Held over till next meeting. Mr Hurg'ess petitioned that his section No. 49 might be taken out of drainage rating areal — Messrs Coplostone and Routley were appointed to investigate the claim.

The Chairman gave notive of motion that the clerk be paid a percentage on loans for extra work in connection with same. The meeting then roj>e.
