EXCELSIOR v. RIVALS.

This match was played on Bayly Park on Saturday and resulted in a very easy win for Excelsior, the scores being : Excflsior 224 for eight wickets as against Rivals 56 for ton wickets. For Excelsior Cole was the most useful man; he made 50 runs, took seven wickets for 24 runs and fielded well. Parkinson fielded very smartly and while giving promise of a good stand at the wickets was out to a very smart catch by Campbell. Butts made top score (66), and was run out in a peculiar manner. He hit the ball back hard to the bowler, who, snapping it up smartly, had a shot at the wickets. To escape being hit on the legs Butts jumped up and the ball passed under him and hit his wicket.

Allen (16) notched the highest store for Rivals, and with Benjamin made tho best stand of the innings. Campbell and Elliott, who were expected to make a good fight, failed and wore dismissed for small scores. Campbell fieldod well and bowled well. He took five wickets for 67 runs. Page also bowled well, and some of the batsmen found him very hard to play. The scores were :—: —
