HAWERA MOUNTED RIFLES.

The annual muster parade of this corps was held on Wednesday evening in the Drillshed, and the Inglewood division parade to-night at Inglewood for inspection. After the company had been put through some rifle exercises they were formed up, and a very pleasing function took place, being the presentation of the championship belt which was at one timo known as Messrs R. Hick and H. McLean Belt, as they presented it to the Hawera Mounted Rifles for competition some years ago. Through some reason or other this was lost sight of until this year, when it I was competed for for the first time. After ! short speeches by Mr R. Hick and Captain Morrison, who referred to the many good points of shooting, the presentation was made by Mrs R. Hicks, who also decorated the winner, Lieut. J. Irwin, with a mfidal. Afterwards Messrs Hallenstein Bros. Challenge Cup, which is to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals, for the highest aggregate of three competitions each year, was presented. This cup fell to a very promising shot in the near future, Trooper A. V. Snrimpton. Both recipients suitably replied, and three cheers were given for Mr and Mrs R. Hicks.
