The New Zealand Cricket Council decided to.night to retain any profit accruing from the two test matches against the Australian Eleven, and to appoint one selector only for the New Zealand team, the appointment to be made at the next meeting. ELTHAM v. EXCELSIOR. Cricket, an the season proceeds, is gcttiiiß decidedly better, and the scoring on Thursday in the above-named fixture was very good. The ground wa B wet, but the wicket was in good order. Excelsiors won easily on the first innings. Eitham batted first, and put; up a score of 62. Watts played a good inninaj of 21 (not ou,t), and Glasgow put on 15. Velvin (8) was the only other batsman to do anything against the bowling ol Haggett and Co|e. The former secured seven pickets for 27, and the latter two for 28. Butts trot one wicket for one run. Excelsiors went in, and played out time, flooring 128 for the loss of five wickets. Cole played a capital inings for 71 (not out). # He gave a few chances, but otherwise his exhibition was very good. His defence was sound, and any loose bowline he punished severely. Ha«rett batted well for his score of 23. Ltfdle made 7, p "™2" 6 » Sargent 3 and Butts 7 (not ont). The local men thus won the game by 66 runs.
