Mr Taverner, before the Butter Commission, admitted that he asked Mr Sinclair to use influence to secure his an pointment as representative of the Manchester Ship Canal Co. in Australia, and also admitted that he applied for a site for freezing works, but suppressed the name of the person who was to use th* ! site, i |The Butter Commission has been si* ting at Melbourne for the past, eight months. It consists of Mr G. C. Morrison (Under-Secretary), Chairman, ami Messrs G. Graham, M.L.A., and H. Gyles Turner, and was appointed to enquire into and report on the alleged payment ol secret commissions, rebates, discounts Drokerages, refunds, or other concessions on ocean freights on butter ; also into allegations of bribery or allowances to or on the part of agents, merchants, and others, and the alleged improper altera tions in account sales, and all other matters appertaining to the production, trans port, export, and sale, or realisation of and other dealings in butter, etc.]
