COLONIAL COMPETITION,
SYDNEY, November 8. Mr Teece, general manager .of the A.M. P. Society, has returned fronl a tour to England, Canada, and America. He states that Canada looms much larger in English eyes than Australia at the present time, and that New South Wales is being left behind in competition with the other states and colonies of Australasia While London stores are full of New South Wales butter, rabbits, and other produce, the products of New Zealand and Victoria are sold before they arrive.

The Herald says much interest is being taken in New Zealand's, proposal to establish a High Conunissionership, and that she is showing Australia the way.
KAISER AND BISHOP.
BERLIN, November 7. Benzler, Catholic bishop, of Met*, has interdicted the Catholic churchyard where a Protestant was buried, declaring it to be desecrated. The Kaiser, summoning Bishop* Benzler to his presence, witheringJy rebuked him, declaring that ho would not permit an inch of Protestant Germany to be cursed.

(Received November 8, 8.58 a.m.) LONDON, November 7. The late Sir W. Harcourt's personalty has, been sworn at £174,024. The billiard match of 8000 up, level, Weiss v. Haverson, was abandoned when tho scores stood Harversbn, 7748; Weiss, 7037.
CAPETOWN, November 7. Four hundred Hercros. who took refuge in British Bechuanaland, have been disarmed.
