LOCAL AND GENERAL. - • The Rev. C. Porter will fill the pulpit of -the Methodist Church to-morrow. In the morning the subject will be "The Call of Christian Sympathy," and at night "Revolt and its Consequences." Mr Porter will preach at Okaiawa at 2 p.m. In the Waverley nominations, published yesterday, Marionella's name was omitted from the Cup and the Morton Memorial Stakes. Mr F. A. Brenier, of Okaiwa, has be<;n asked, and has consented, to judge in the draught classes at Auckland show on November 25 and 26. and at Tauranga on December 8. Mr T. Nicholas, late of the Egmont Hotel, leaves on a trip to Australia on Tuesday; and on his return will take over Hastie's Hotel, Feilding, the lease of which lift has purchased. Most of the dairy companies have now disposed of their outputs of butter for the current season. Of those that have sold outright none are reported to have quite reached 9£d, though several have come very close to it. Pyroxyline, which is stated to have been used with deadly effect by the Russians at Port Arthur, is merely gun-cot-ton dissolved in spirit. It is not quite so powerful as gun-cotton, and the explosive is probably used in the form mentioned for convenience in loading the hand grenades. A congregational meeting was held in the Presbyterian Church on Thursday evening to consider the appointment of a pennanont, successor to the Rev. J. E. Bertram, and a unanimous cf.ll was given the Itev. A. Treadwell. The rev. gentleman has been in Hawera for the past six weeks in temporary charge of the parish. His last appointment was at Lyttelton, where lie labored for 11 years, and was held in the highest, esteem. A meeting of the. Taranaki and West Coast i)a,iry Produce Exchange was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday. Present: Messrs Bissett, (Chairman), Spratt, Borrie, Morrison, liarleyman, Williams, Bobbins, and Jlalliwell. An apology was received . from Mr Joll for unavoidable absence. The Chairman reported that the circulars had been printed and sent out to all factories in Taranaki, and also to a number of farmers and others. Applications were received from Messrs Thompson, and Quin for the position of Secretary; but both applicants had been informed that no appointment would be made at pre sent. After a discussion on matters in general, it was resolved, That circulars be sent to those who intimated their willingness to join the exchange, asking them to forward their subscriptions. Resolved, That the Bank of New Zealand be appointed bankers for the exchange, and that the Chairman be authorised for the present to sign cnequea. The date of nexo meeting was left in the hands of Messrs Robbins, Halliwell, and the Chairman. A quiet but very pretty wedding took place on Wednesday last at St. Mary's Church, New Plymouth, at which George Samuel, third son of Mr A. S. Hobbs, of Palmer road, Kaponga, was married to Ella Grace, youngest daugnter of Mr A. Moore of Sew Plymouth, the Rev. F. Evans conducting the service. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked extremely pretty in a white canvas voile with deep yoke pf chiffon and antique trimming, hhe wpi\s a large hat of chiffon and white plumes, and carried a beautiful bouquet arranged by her aunt. Mrs Weyepgang, of Ngaire. The bridesmaids were Misses Ruth Mopre and G. Jfoote. who mom becoming frpeka of cream vole with insertion yoke, and straw hats trimmed with wr«aths of cream rpses, and carried bouquets of fed anemones an 4 foliage tied with red ribjon. Th" bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr J. H. Hobba. After the ceremony the bridal party were entertained at a very enjoyable afternoon tea at tto house of Mr and Mrs Moore. The yoang couple left by the 4.30 train for ;h<vr future home at Waverley. The bride's travelling dress was a most becoming fawn dresg, with hat of brown and cream straw, trimmed with two shades of roses. mere were a, great many wedding presents, including quite a large number of those ever acceptable duplicates—^cheques.
