SPRING HORSE FAIR.
Nolan, Tonka and Co.'s annual spring horse fair opened yesterday. with a large attendance from all parts ot the colony. Canterbury, Hawku' Bay, and Palmerston North wens well represented, the majority of (he horses goings to the latter place. One buy^r, from Canterbury bought heavily. The local attendance was good, all the available seats being occupied. | Lidding for the heavier classes was very 1 excited, and most of the lots found new owners. Tho horses catalogued were, perhaps, the best that have ever been offered in this district, and were of the finest quality. One offered by Mr Mitchell topped the market at £60. From the point of view of numbers the sale is certainly the most successful that has been held ,on the coast, the number yarded oxeccding live hundred. The following prices were- obtained : — Broken draughts £38 to £46 10b, age.d ditto £24 to £33, unbroken draughts (a very choice lot) £26 to £47 10s, heavy shaft ers £56 to £60, half draught and tram horses £85 to £30 10s. Only a few hacks were catalogued and made from £8 to £16. '
